Aside from the hospital, nurses do work in a number of places such as school, prison, or patient’s home.
Next, you have to check the waters. There are many nursing programs that offer short and voluntary activities to try out certain specialties. You may not be able to get class credit, but at least you will find out quickly if there are responsibilities in a certain job that you dislike. Testing the waters would mean job shadowing, mini-daylong courses or hands-on training. Ask a lot of questions before finally choosing your specialty.
