When you take up nursing, you will most probably spend your first few years in college studying a general nursing degree. Then after that, you will decide to study a major specialty. Some nurses, because of their high-pressure or more technical nature, would require more training than others. Plus, not every college program will offer specific nursing studies. So pick a specialty based on your desired number of years in school.

When you already have three or four choices, interview some of the working nurses and come up with basic questions to know more about their specialty. Most of them will be willing to give a few minutes of their time. Asking questions is a good way to find out what you really want to specialize in.
